Reiki Healing vs Conventional Medicine

Margit Cathrine Moller

The death of Apple founder Steve Jobs reminded me that indeed money and power cannot buy life or healing. The best of conventional medicine cannot prevent the untimely death of one of the world’s best visionaries. It led me to think of other people who use Reiki in their cancer treatment.

Reiki practitioners and healers like me look at diseases, including cancer, is caused by an uneven distribution of the body’s energy fields. By correcting that imbalance, patients will experience immediate improvement of their condition. We do not however tell patients that can cure cancer – but what it does is to make the body more relaxed and more aligned so that it responds to medicine very well and it changes a person’s outlook and sense of optimism.

Diseases like Steve Job’s pancreatic cancer affect people on different levels – physically, emotionally, socially, and yes even spiritually. Practitioners of Western conventional medicine are not really trained to go beyond the physical. That is where healing tools like Reiki comes in. When used to supplement conventional medicine, Reiki helps to involve and treat the whole person and all his levels. Oftentimes, patients receive positive healing energy which will help them become active participants in their healing process.

Thus, the question of whether we choose Reiki or conventional medicine should never be asked in the first place. Conventional medicine provides a clear diagnosis and better treatment which Reiki practitioners are not trained to do. But, conventional medicine practitioners are not also trained to look at the whole person and provide positive energy.

This is what we mean by having the best of both worlds.
