A butterfly beating its wings on the banks of the Amazon can touch off a tornado in Texas. This might be used to explain the chaos theory but for me this illustrates our interconnectedness as human beings. Our everyday action, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem will eventually affect the state of our environment and the future of our children.
As I said before, a true mark of a healthy and empowered person is his or her capacity to see the consequences of his or her actions and decisions.
An irresponsible act like throwing away a candy wrapper or a cigarette butt on the streets will contribute will have greater repercussions such a flooding.
On the other hand, a simple, deliberate, and consistent earth-friendly act will greatly contribute to the preservation of life here on Earth.
A decision to walk, to carpool, or to take public transportation will go a long way in cutting down our carbon footprint.
A simple matter of choosing to eat fresh or, if possible, organic food will help our health, our wellness, the local economy, and the environment.
Saving the earth can start in small ways just like the beating of a butterfly’s wings.
All we need to do is make that decision.
