In consideration of your body

As we celebrated Father’s Day all over the world last Sunday, I was reminded of my own father. One of the words that come to mind when I think of him was: considerate.
There is something about considerate people that brings so much positive energy and life around them.

While being considerate of others is a mark of an adult and empowered person, oftentimes we are not considerate about our own self, especially about our own body.
More often, we tell other people to take a rest, or file a vacation leave, or eat properly, but don’t extend the same gentle consideration to ourselves.

Our attitude towards our body greatly affects our health.
I know a lot of people who take care of some parts of their body and neglect the rest.
People take care of their teeth.
Women take care of their hair.
Most people take care of their skin.
But, are we considerate about our body?

Being considerate means respecting and honoring our body.
Being considerate means being grateful to our body for what it has done to contain our spirit.

1. Listen to your body.
It sends messages regularly. What to eat, when to eat, when to sleep.
Our body teaches us what is comfortable and what is not.
Our body tells us what it is capable of doing and what its limits are.

2. Take care of your body’s health.
Eat well.
Stop smoking.
Drink moderately.
Sleep properly.
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise.

3. Seek help.
When your body is complaining, sometimes it is better to seek help.
It could be calling a healer, a doctor, an acupuncturist, a nutritionist or anyone whose expertise is in helping find the best path to health and wellness.
